Fine Print: A Performance Incubator With No Fine Print

Project organized by K. MacNeil and Henry Gepfer

Description

Performance art is a fringe interest in printmaking. We want to coax it out of the margins and onto center stage. We are proposing a space for folks to perform polished work, stream video, or workshop new material for an audience without the expectations that come with performing for a gallery or institution. We envision this as a printmaking & performance incubator; a sort of open-mic variety show.

We are deeply interested in the moments where print intersects with performance, action, music, happenings, comedy, drama, video, new media, and all the exciting betweens and beyonds. These types of intersections are rare in American print media, and we are interested in nurturing this work to pave the way for future generations of performative printmakers.

Our goal is to create a recurring space for print and adjacent artists to try new things and push themselves into unknown and experimental territories. We see this dually as an opportunity to begin that journey and to offer a new kind of event format for a print conference. All conference attendees are encouraged to sign up for space to perform, enact, display, stream or inhabit by emailing K. MacNeil and Henry Gepfer at fineprintersinc@gmail.com.
