Good Trouble: Protest Through Print

Themed Portfolio Exchange organized by Sarah Sipling

Description

This portfolio exchange addresses the role of activism and the possibilities of change within printmaking.  Prints will address social issues that need to change and the portfolio exchange is open to artists making varied editions, to allow for elements of visual change within the creations of each edition.

"When you see something that is not right, you must say something. You must do something." John Lewis

What is the role of protests?

What is the power that exists in the multiples of printmaking?

And how can printmaking bring about change?

This portfolio will be a direct response to the power of the people to stand up through protest and through printmaking.  During these times of political and civil unrest, standing up and speaking up is more important and necessary than ever.  ‘Good Trouble: Protest through Print’ will speak to the many causes and rights that have been trampled, laws that need to be rewritten or overturned and the ability to cause positive change in government and society.  In the current time of hateful, dangerous and destructive political narratives, we can speak up through protests and through printmaking. Through the possibilities of printmaking and the possibility of the masses, of protests, of change.

In the spirit of being open to and demanding change, this edition is open to and encourages variations.  The alterations that occur during the proofing process represent the changes that can come through protest, through ‘good trouble’. Please consider a varied edition that uses unique elements such as color changes, hand painting, digital printing, collage or alterations to the printed surface.
